Mississippi River Challenge Paddlers at Saint Anthony Lock
The Great River Energy Mississippi River Challenge is a one- or two-day event, July 26 & 27, 2008, to raise awareness of the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities. There are several options for participants:
You can participate by bicycle on the many beautiful trails in the river gorge, or by paddling your canoe or kayak and exploring the Cities from the perspective of the River. All participants pay a registration fee and are asked to raise pledges for river protection…and earn spectacular premiums for your efforts. All food and beverages for the weekend, safety and sag support, shuttles, interpretive highlights, live music and camping at Fort Snelling are included in the participant registration fee. Come experience and protect this amazing river!

New this year — a cycling portion of the Challenge!
Friends of the Mississippi River is excited to announce that we are adding a bicycle portion to the Great River Energy Mississippi River Challenge! Cycling participants (“pedalers”) will be able to pedal a Saturday route along the river and meet up with paddlers at Fort Snelling, where all participants are welcome to enjoy the festivities (great food, live music, historic reenactments) and spend the night. We are even working on a way to enable interested pedalers to paddle the second day of the Challenge!
Stay tuned to this web site as we progress with plans for the pedaling route and other event details pertaining to all event participants and volunteers.
