“The green space is certainly essential - anymore building in this area and it would lose its character. ”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?
“I enjoy the contrast between seeing the bridge along with the seemingly unbroken tree line. This view reminds me of a spot along the Eel River in Northern California.”
In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?
“Buildings that stand above the treeline, removal of vegetation along the bank.”
“I love how you are down at the river level, but there is still space. I also once saw a barge coming past at sunset and it was like you could reach out and touch it. It is a nice place to skip stones.”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?
“River level, yet space to play. ”
In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?

“Minneapolis: Franklin Ave Bridge
It highlights the broad reach of the river that is popular for boating and rowing.”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?

In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?
“Any development that alters the character or form of the residential area on the river banks. Any changes that encourage auto traffic over pedestrian and bike use on the bridge and adjacent to it. ”

Why do you like this particular view?
“I am an island girl, born on Boca Chica Key and having lived most of my life land locked here in Minneapolis I still feel the need to be surrounded by water every so often and Nicollet Island is my haven”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?
“Looking out, back at the city, just a few feet away. There are many places like that along this beautiful river. I would never choose to live by a lake, it does not move like the river does. ever changing and who knows what will float by next?”
In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?
“The Minneapolis Park Board giving away more private rights to the land on the island so that it cannot be enjoyed by all of us”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?
“It is a peaceful place to enjoy our share of the Mississippi River; natural and undeveloped.
My sons fished here 30 years ago and it hasn't changed. It summons a "Huckleberry Finn" moment.”
In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?
“In my opinion, an access road, any paving, would alter the character. Anything other than a picnic table and Satellite would be an intrusion. ”
“I love this view because it shows off our world-class river in a beautiful, public park environment..in what Horace Cleveland called "a setting worth of so precious a jewel."”
What do you think are the most important aspects of this view?
“I love this view because, though you are in the heart of a major metropolitan area one cannot see the built structures over the tree canopy. For more than 100 years both Minneapolis and St. Paul have done a pretty good job of limiting structure heights along the gorge. The result is this fine view that can restore a little peace amid the urban noise.”
In your opinion, what types of changes to this landscape would diminish the quality of the view?
“This is the only gorge on the entire length of the Mississippi. Structures visible above the tree canopy, new bridges, power lines, billboards, etc. in this view would degrade its beauty.”
